  1. SQL Social at the Great British Beer Festival

    As with last year we will be going to the Great British Beer Festival.

    The agenda is as follows

    This session will generally be about anything you want to talk about.

  2. London meeting - 9th June - SQL Product team present Stream Insight

    We are lucky to have members from the SQL product team over in London to give a presentation on Stream Insight. They are here to do a conference at UCL on one of the uses of Stream Insight and that is Algorithmic Trading. As part of this they will be also announcing a “The Microsoft Banking Science Algorithmic Trading Prize” of up to £10,000

  5. Cambridge SQL User Group 15th Dec

    Cambridge

    The next user group will be combined event with AltNetBeers at the Tram Depot from 7:30pm.  It's still sponsored by Red Gate - in a pub :-)

     The format like this:

     

    1. Everyone write down topics they want to discuss/hear discussed on post-it notes and sticks them on the wall

    2. Everyone votes on what topics they are interested in (you can vote on as many topics as you like)

    3. The topics are ordered based on the votes they get

    4. Starting from the most popular topic, have a park bench session to discuss

    5. Once a topic starts to wind down, move on to the next

    6. Drink beer!

    The focus of the meeting is Query plans in SQL Server and what happens when they go wrong.

    You must have had the situation when a query works fine for months and then all of a sudden it starts taking forever. Or a query when run from your application  takes minutes, but when you run it from Management Studio it takes seconds.

    We will look at why this happens so you know what to do in the future and how you can avoid the situation in the first place
